Lately I have noticed quite a few people utilizing a single word as their new years resolution and I was intrigued. I haven’t set a new years resolution since I was in high school, and even then I would set it in November and December. I did that because I figured if I couldn’t keep my resolution for a month or two what would be the point of trying to stick to one for a year- hence the setting of new years resolutions died. I did, however, set goals. My goal setting was more on a daily, weekly, monthly or seasonal/semester basis. There was no real rhyme or reason. If I wanted to do something I set a goal and gave it a reasonable timeline. It worked, until it didn’t.
The more I thought about the changes I want to make in my life, the more I liked this idea of a one word challenge. So, I started thinking and finally settled on my word of the year:
My challenge to myself is to be intentional this year. My goal is for my life to have more purpose, even if at times my purpose is to be in the moment and have fun with my kids. I want this word to remind myself that if I want more out of life I have to think about the choices I made on the daily.
